It’s been a long time coming but Rocky View Council has announced the hiring of a new CAO. Dorian Wandzura will be the new CAO. Mr. Wandzura is not currently working as a CAO though he does have significant municipal experience. The following is taken from Mr. Wandzura’s LinkedIn profile:

A visionary infrastructure and operations executive who provides leadership with a difference and drives results. Dorian has provided executive leadership to infrastructure organizations resulting in improved strategic performance, greater operational efficiencies, improved safety performance and more effective use of resources. Dorian has also served as executive lead on two significant Public Private Partnership projects in both the Water/Wastewater and Transportation sectors.

Over 2 decades of municipal government leadership and executive responsibility in the cities of Yorkton, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Regina and Edmonton have given Dorian a broad and deep understanding of municipal government. Responsibilities have ranged from public works and infrastructure, parks and recreation spaces, fleets and facilities, emergency services and emergency responses, water/wastewater/stormwater and environmental services, solid waste, water & power utility systems.

In addition to direction operational portfolios, Dorian has extensive experience working directly with elected Councils to develop strategy, policy and governance approaches leading to a stellar track record of executing strategy and achieving results.

Mr. Wandzura is currently working in a consulting role. A google search found the following:

Dorian is one of the Partners in LadderUp Consulting which provides support to municipalities in the areas governance, strategy, operational performance, executive coaching and asset management.  In over 25 years of public service, Dorian has held Chief Engineer, General Manager and Deputy City Manager roles in municipalities, such as Yorkton, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Regina and Edmonton.  A passionate believer in performance excellence, innovation and culture, Dorian  has taken the opportunities to bring his expertise to a number of professional organizations including as President of the Saskatchewan Public Works Association and the Canadian Public Works Association, and is thrilled to be able to play a role in growing the asset management community in Alberta.

Rocky View County has been without a full-time CAO since Al Hoggan resigned last spring. Mr. Wandzura will begin his tenure in early May.
